Getting to know Sant Miquel de Campanet
A medieval church around two kilometres outside Campanet, on the road to the caves and Fonts Ufanes.
The building dates from the 13th century. After the conquest of Mallorca in 1229, Christian settlers built it on the remains of an existing mosque. It is one of the island’s oldest surviving churches.
Why it stands outside the village
The church is older than the village in its present form. It originally served the whole district, including neighbouring Búger. The settlement later grew elsewhere, but the church remained where it was.
That is why one of Mallorca’s oldest churches now stands among fields, with little signposting.

What you can see
A plain stone building with an open porch, bell gable and cypresses in front. There is little ornament: this is early Gothic building in the countryside.
You usually can’t go inside, as the church is generally locked. Ask in Campanet about services if you want to see the interior.
