A church belonging to the estate
The church belongs to the old Son Serra country estate, inland from Son Serra de Marina. Its pointed tower rises above the pines. Close up, you notice the rounded entrance arch and the circular window above it.
The estate behind the church
A possessió is a large Mallorcan country estate. Son Serra has medieval origins. Residential buildings, farm buildings and towers stand around a large courtyard, recalling a time when this stretch of coast was primarily agricultural.
The photographs show an ochre-coloured round tower, old stone steps and walls covered in plants, as well as the courtyard buildings. Look for these details: focus only on the church tower and you miss much of the estate.

Visiting in practice
The estate was closed when I visited. Don’t plan on entering its courtyard or interiors. The photographs show details of the buildings, but they don’t mean the grounds are freely accessible.
Santa Margalida council describes a walk along Camí de la Mar, through the pine woods to the estate and church. The unsurfaced path is separate from access to the property itself. Stay on the main route and respect closed gates and signs.
