Getting to know Sant Jordi

A village in the Prat de Sant Jordi, the flat plain east of Palma. It belongs to the municipality of Palma and lies four kilometres from the airport.

It isn’t a sightseeing destination, nor does it pretend to be one.

The airport

In summer, aircraft climb above the church apse every few minutes. The airport is four kilometres away, with its runway pointing towards the village. Almost everyone arriving on the island flies over Sant Jordi.

If you want peace and quiet, this isn’t the place. If you like aircraft, it may be just right.

What you’ll see

A church with a columned entrance, a bus stop and a lottery kiosk. Beyond them are farm tracks with rusty letterboxes attached to a utility pole.

Then comes the plain: straight tracks and farmland full of flowers in spring.

When to come

April and October, or February for the almond blossom. It works particularly well as a stop before your flight home.

In high summer, heat builds up on the plain.
