The road
The approach is as memorable as the lighthouse. Antonio Parietti, the engineer who also designed the bends down to Sa Calobra, laid the road across the peninsula in the 1930s. Over roughly twenty kilometres, views switch between its two coastlines.
Mirador Es Colomer, around six kilometres from Port de Pollença, is a particularly worthwhile stop, looking down towards the rocky islet of the same name. Nearby, a steep side road climbs towards the old Talaia d’Albercutx watchtower.
The lighthouse
The Far de Formentor has stood at the far end since 1863, around 210 metres above the sea. There is a parking area, a café and a wide coastal view. Come to see the end of the peninsula and the sea all around it.

Seasonal access restrictions
The narrow road cannot accommodate unlimited summer traffic. In 2026, restrictions run from 15 May to 18 October, daily from 10am to 10pm. There are two sections, with different rules.
The first section, from Port de Pollença to Platja de Formentor, remains accessible to private vehicles while the beach car park has capacity. When it fills, access can close at Port de Pollença.
The second section, from Platja de Formentor to the lighthouse, is restricted during those hours to buses, bicycles and authorised vehicles. The control point is just beyond the beach. Arriving at the beach early does not give you permission to continue along the lighthouse road during restricted hours.
Outside the stated hours, the seasonal restriction does not apply, although other road closures remain possible. Dates are set each year, so check before travelling.
For a quieter drive, choose a day outside the restricted season. March is often a good option; in October, check the end date first.
