Es Calderers
An old country estate near Sant Joan where it’s easy to stay longer than planned. Behind the substantial walls are furnished living rooms, a private chapel, a kitchen and wine cellar. Outside, the visit continues through workshops, the garden and animal enclosures. Allow more than an hour for this detour from the Ma-15.

Behind the walls of Es Calderers
Es Calderers, called Els Calderers on its official website, lies off the Ma-15 near Sant Joan. From the car park, you walk towards the old country house. Looking at the façade, you’d never guess how many rooms lie behind it.
The estate’s history goes back to the Middle Ages. According to the operator, construction of the present manor house began around 1750, with extensions continuing into the early 19th century. The visit explores life on a country estate: the living rooms, farming and work that shaped each day.
From room to room
Take your time through the house. In one room it’s the furniture that catches your eye; in another, the pictures or shelves of books. The kitchen is filled with crockery and equipment. In the gentleman’s study, objects look as though their owner has only just stepped outside.
There’s a private chapel in the main house, as well as a wine cellar and distillery, with plenty of smaller details in between. This unhurried exploration is what Friedhelm enjoyed so much. You don’t need to recognise every object to get a sense of how people once lived here.

The visit continues outside
The living rooms aren’t the end of the tour. Outbuildings include the laundry and old smithy. The tools show how much work was done on the estate itself.
Between the buildings are gardens and animal enclosures. In Friedhelm’s photographs, goats rest in their enclosure while trees and old walls cast shade around the house. Leave time for the grounds as well as the interiors.

A break on the estate
If you’d like a rest after looking around, there’s a small café with a terrace. The operator also serves Mallorcan snacks and tastings. It makes a convenient stop at the end of your visit, without having to drive elsewhere.
Around two hours is a sensible plan for the house, garden and a break. Friedhelm’s verdict was clear: one hour wasn’t enough.

Admission, directions and when to visit
From the Ma-15 between Manacor and Palma, follow signs for Els Calderers. The operator lists the turning at kilometre 37. Smaller roads then take you through the countryside to the estate’s car park.
Friedhelm paid ten euros for adult admission in 2026. That records the price of his visit; check the official ticket page for current admission. Opening times are on the operator’s website.
Friedhelm particularly recommends spring and autumn, when you can enjoy the grounds at a comfortable pace. The house is a year-round destination. In high summer, allow for the heat and save the garden and animal enclosures for the cooler hours.
